Pakistan's Sindh High Court said Thursday that the Federal Reserve had not ruled on a request for cryptocurrencies, while the Central Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had not declared the cryptocurrencies illegal, according to DAWN. Two judges, led by Judge Mohammad Karim Khan Agha, sought the opinion of the SBP (until January 13) asking if Pakistan has a law banning cryptocurrency trading. The court also warned that if the deputy chief financial officer did not disclose the above statement on behalf of the Treasury before the next hearing, the Treasury should step in and seek clarification. Meanwhile, the court accepted the indictment alleging that "SBP issued a notice banning the use of virtual resources in April 2018" and announced that the court had appealed to the Ministry of Finance not to not have submitted the conclusions of the final public hearing. The court gave me one last time to write the answer. SBP chief executive Rehan Masood told the judge cryptocurrencies had never been declared illegal. The judge ordered him to attend the next hearing and submit a statement acknowledging if there are any laws, regulations or restrictions on cryptocurrency trading in Pakistan.
