On August 20, Block announced that BitFlyer US, the US affiliate of the Japanese cryptocurrency exchange BitFlyer, was now operating in Hawaii. The exchange was approved by the State Policy Sandbox "Digital Currency Innovation Lab", a joint venture between the Hawaii Department of Financial Institutions and the Hawaii State Government Agency, Hawaii Technology Development Corporation (HTDC). The sandbox service, launched in March, allows cryptocurrency companies to apply for business licenses in Hawaii without a two-year state transfer license.
