Central Bank of Kazakhstan: decision to establish or not a CBDC by December 2022

On December 9, the governor of the Central Bank of Kazakhstan, Erbolat Dosayev, announced that the National Bank of Kazakhstan had completed the design of the digital platform Tenge of the CBDC of Kazakhstan. Dossayev said the medium-term bank is now preparing to announce the preliminary results of the digital dividend measurement and the CBDC pilot project for December 15. He noted that the engine includes local financial firms and some international partners. Although the CBDC test was successful, Kazakhstan has yet to decide whether it will release a digital version of its currency.
