Golden Financial reports that the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) addressed cryptocurrencies and digital assets in its 110-page trading report. According to the report, ESMA, while recognizing that cryptocurrency in itself is an innovation, has "unwanted consequences" and has a significant impact on the management environment. ESMA further stated that while distributing the power of Information Technology (DLT) to cryptocurrency engines and possibly expanding applications, the use of certain DLT protocols could also be a concern for the environment. ESMA said crypto devices exist outside of EU law and need to be monitored in the future.
