The players are not named due to skepticism.

For example, in 2017 Electronic Arts (EA) faced strong opposition when it decided to force players to pay to unlock certain characters from the game "Star Wars: Battlefront 2". In the past, players had to work a lot of time to get points like this. After player opposition, EA eventually abandoned the plan and critics described it as a "recovery and stronger" model.

So this month, it's a surprise when the French film announcer Ubisoft announced the continuation of its collaboration in the NFT arena.

Ubisoft was the first to develop a platform called Quartz, which allows players to have in-game items such as headsets in the form of NFTs. This digital tool is designed to track the ownership of a blockchain product. This feature has been added to Ubisoft's "Ghost Recon: Breakpoint" game.

This decision angers many players who criticize Quartz for stealing money. Some commentators have also raised concerns about the environmental impact of cryptocurrencies.

Drewski, the owner of the YouTube channel with over a million users, said it was amazing that the platform could squeeze everything out of the “Ghost Recon” game series with little effort in the game itself.

YouTube recently blocked movies like Quartz, but users who cross the YouTube block by downloading software see dislike of Quartz trailers as a side effect.

A spokesperson for Ubisoft told CNBC that Quartz's NFT is now free and the company is not spending money on a second sale. The spokesperson said Quartz was being tested.

One expert added that Digits, Ubisoft's NFT, "is a beautiful in-game game that doesn't compromise on gameplay."

To address environmental concerns, Ubisoft announced that it relies on less power than a network called Tezos.

However, Ubisoft isn't the only game company to jump into the NFT wave.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson said joining NFT was an important part of the future business. Ukrainian developer GSC Game World hopes to join NFT in its upcoming game "STALKER 2", but the current campaign has been canceled due to fan protests.

NFT is divided into the gaming industry.

Ubisoft's failure to address the gaming industry is not conducive to NFTs. For example, last month Microsoft's Xbox CEO Phil Spencer warned that an initiative to bring NFTs into video games was spending money.

Game Awards (TGA) host Geoff Keighley told CNBC in a recent interview ahead of the video game industry's annual awards ceremony, it was clear that some of the NFTs in some of the games in this moment is like spending money.

Keighley said he liked the idea of game developers making money selling NFTs, but he didn't want to play just as a platform to make money.

He added: “I love sports because I have a world of sports, stories and experiences. I don't want to play sports. Even small businesses are a concern.

Many cryptocurrency startups have predicted that NFTs will play a role in the global video game world. For example, Axie Infinity is a blockchain game that allows users to write and breed Pokémon-like creatures called “Axies” with NFTs. Axie Infinity is not just a "paid game", it allows players to earn money by selling their Axie NFTs to other users.

Why use blockchain?

Robby Yung, CEO of Animoca Brands, Entrepreneur at Sky Mavis, Founder of Axie Infinity, says the industry model has changed over the years. Games have always offered to pay for the game up front by buying cartridges or DVDs, or downloading maps later, but now we have moved to the free game formats industry. This mod is free at the base level, but there are virtual tools in the game and players can get these tools to improve and enhance gameplay.

Yung said the NFT approach is new. This is because players can now become members of digital assets purchased in the game, and then players can remove those assets from the game and transfer them elsewhere. This situation is a bit like childhood if you buy a cassette tape for your console and want to buy a new one but can't afford it, you will end up selling your old game over using the console. . With the advent of digital content, there is no second-level retailing. Now that the blockchain is reappearing, players can interact with content they ignore or no longer play.

However, while some people are excited about NFTs and their ability to be used in games, not everyone is clear.

Omdia chief analyst George Jijiashvili said NFT may one day have a place in video games, but still "on a new level." Misuse of providing NFTs without proper valuation can result in serious damage.
