Big companies like Walmart and Dole have been trying to use blockchain technology for food safety monitoring for years. Today, the Singapore government wants to extend this technology to the whole country.

Since 90% of Singaporean food is shipped and faces food safety issues, the Singapore Food Agency worked with veriTAG and ST Engineering to develop a blockchain tracking system to track food from production to sales.

The veriTAG system uses the NUSL blockchain, an open source modified network designed for application developers. The NULS Foundation is headquartered in Singapore. Earlier this year, the NULS Foundation announced a project on a network called "Nerve Network", a policy that could deal with Bitcoin or Ethereum.

According to the report, the Singapore Food Authority tested 3,825 fruits and vegetables between April and December 2019 and found that about 13% (about 500) of the products contained damage caused by excessive exposure to pesticides or chemicals. The meat diet tested better, with 114 of 7,010 samples failing the test. Both of these faulty products increase the risk of getting into the hands of consumers.

In an interview with Decrypt, Jason Lim, founder and CEO of veriTAG, said the system was first used in China, but the new model developed in Singapore in partnership with ST Engineering will add space-based GPS capabilities and improve its relationship to the actual content. noted. The start of the partnership also brought recognition to the company.

"The veriTAG should have a partner who can provide support and NULS can provide full support to us," Lim told Decrypt. "Now on the NUSL chain, veriTAG has mining nodes, so we can provide the best solutions for our customers."

The company also wants to encourage its customers to participate in the project. Users can use the web application to verify veriTAG seals for accurate content, which can be redeemed for VOID tokens and opt for Singapore digital rewards. VeriTAG is currently partnering with select POS providers in Singapore to join the veri$HOP loyalty program.

veriTAG will unveil its latest public protocol at the Smart China Expo in Singapore in September 2020 in Chongqing, China.

Globally, the use of blockchain technology in food safety is increasing day by day and major corporations are joining in the quest for capital. For example, IBM's food trust system has used a wide range of foods, from scallops to infant formula, and fruit and vegetable conglomerate Dole incorporates blockchain technology for everything.
